Since taking office in 2009, President Obama has done much to anger conservatives, to be sure. His love affair with abortion and giving federal money to support it overseas, his love affair with big government, deficit spending, and debt, and his continued push to force people to buy insurance and to pay for other people’s contraceptives and abortions has frustrated conservatives. But why is it that liberals are beginning to hate him? Up until his election, liberals have had a love affair with then Senator and Presidential-candidate Obama. Where else could they find a candidate who would vote multiple times against a bill to ban infanticide in Illinois hospitals? So why do they hate him? Enjoy these quotes, with notes on how they enrage liberals.
1. “The fact that we are here today to debate raising America‘s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ‘s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” [Conservatives say “bravo,” but liberals say “heresy.”]
2. “So long as I’m Commander-in-Chief, we will sustain the strongest military the world has ever known. When you take off the uniform, we will serve you as well as you’ve served us – because no one who fights for this country should have to fight for a job, or a roof over their head, or the care that they need when they come home.” [Conservatives say “Hoorah,” but the liberals say “don’t support the baby killers.” Unsurprisingly, they never use the same term when talking about abortion.]
3. There is a moral dimension to abortion, which I think pro-choice [people] have not talked about or tried to tamp down. That’s a mistake. [Conservatives look at the source and likely say “more bullshit talk,” while liberals choke on their latte’s and spit out the word “morals” as if it’s the worst curse they’ve ever encountered.]
4. “Tak[ing] out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.” [Conservatives: “I can’t believe that as*hole actually said that. Now look at him.” Liberals: “that was different. Now raising the debt ceiling and running debt is the best way to grow our economy. And it’s Bush’s fault.]
5. “That is the true genius of America, that we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door. That we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe or hiring somebody’s son. That we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted.” [Conservatives: “What about NSA? What about IRS targeting conservative groups?” Liberals: “Say what you think? Not hate speech, by G-d. Screw the Republicans, we need to get back at them. And we need to destroy those Teabaggers.]
6. “The American people’s hopes and dreams are what matters, not ours. Our obligations are to them. Our regard for them compels us all, Democrats and Republicans, to cooperate, and compromise, and act in the best interests of our nation –- one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.” [Conservatives are mad at both parties for their political crap, Liberals are too busy choking on their drink again because he used the “G” word and it wasn’t linked to “damn.”]
7. “Secularists are wrong when they ask believers to leave their religion at the door before entering into the public square. Frederick Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, Williams Jennings Bryant, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King – indeed, the majority of great reformers in American history – were not only motivated by faith, but repeatedly used religious language to argue for their cause. So to say that men and women should not inject their “personal morality” into public policy debates is a practical absurdity. Our law is by definition a codification of morality, much of it grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition.” [Conservatives: “If only he believed it.” Liberals can’t speak, they’re clutching their throats as words like “Christian,” and “morality” and “religion” spin through their minds.]
8. “Contrary to the claims of some of my critics and some of the editorial pages, I am an ardent believer in the free market.” [C: “What a liar.” L: “Free market sucks!”]
9. “[the opposition has put forward] this notion that I think government creates jobs, that that somehow is the answer. That’s not what I believe. I believe that the free enterprise system is the greatest engine of prosperity the world’s ever known. I believe in self-reliance and individual initiative and risk takers being rewarded.” [Conservatives: “You do not believe that stuff!” Liberals: “Free enterprise sucks, the government does too create jobs, and risk takers and entrepreneurs didn’t build that.”]
10. “The right wing, the Christian right, has done a good job of building these organizations of accountability, much better than the left or progressive forces have. And they also have the higher moral ground with family values and moral responsibility.” * [This one is would be enough to make both liberals and conservatives think Barry was back on drugs.]
Obama appears to be more conservative than his predecessor (remember Bush said he had “abandoned free market principles to save the free market system,”) and, while he’s no Reagan, Obama does hold many views in opposition to many liberal policies. Liberals are largely racist, anti-capitalist, anti-free-market, anti-free-speech, amoral, anti-military, pro-abortion, pro-government deficit and debt, and against entrepreneurs. President Obama is none of these things. That’s why he’s hated by liberals. He doesn’t fit with the extreme left-wing. In other words, he isn’t a brainless hate-filed bastard. He’s the fiscally and morally conservative president we’ve been waiting for. 😉
